Have you heard about Computer Vision Syndrome? The American Optometric Association says staring at a computer screen for too long creates a variety of problems, including eyestrain, blurred vision, headaches, and dry eyes. Apparently, staring at a pixelated screen is more taxing than reading words on a page. In addition to adding unnecessary stress, this effect can interfere with your productivity. The AOA suggests looking away from the screen at something in the distance for 20 seconds every 20 minutes. They also suggest taking a 15 minute break from computer work every two hours. As I’ve discussed many times, taking well-timed breaks during work can restore your productivity and improve your creativity anyway — so these recommendations are a win-win-win!
